KIEVEL STONE LTD of the UK has developed, in conjunction with Sonke Lucht of Germany, an anti-slip treatment for steps and potentially slippery surfaces.
The two firms have launched KL Chemie Ltd to fill the niche market for this product which utilises resins supplied in a two-part cartridge with a static-mixing nozzle.
K-Grip is applied using a gun applicator and with accelerated curing can be trafficked in a few hours, says the company.
The bond is so strong that in breakout tests, the stone has failed before the K-Grip, adds the company.
The product can also be used to generate graphics includng fire escape route markings (fluorescent material version).
The company says it has already received major orders from the US for the product.
The nature of K-Grip also means thta it is not confined to use with stone and ceramics, but can also be applied to most hard surfaces and provide slip-resistant strips on the tailgates of lorries, decks of ships and timber decking etc.
