Topaz Energy and Marine Limited subsidiary Nico International, one of Dubai's specialist ship repair companies, recently announced that it will open a new ship repair facility in Bautino, Kazakhstan later this year, after completing a feasibility study and conducting an in-depth market assessment of the Caspian region.

Based on the findings of their research, Kazakhstan nationals will be recruited and trained in Dubai on ISO9001 quality management system, whilst Nico's own engineers will need to understand how best to operate in the extreme weather conditions prevalent in the Caspian region especially during winter.
Nico International general manager Fazel Fazelbhoy said, "The oil and gas exploration work being conducted in the Kashagan oilfield in the Caspian region creates vast and sustainable long term opportunities for companies like Nico International.
"We have had many successful years of experience in afloat repair services to offshore vessel owners and operators throughout the region."
Fazelbhoy added, "Initially, Nico International will be bringing Kazakhstan nationals to Dubai to train over the coming months in preparation for the opening of the specialised facility in Bautino.
"Once fully trained they will be able to assist us in further recruitment and to develop a professional team made up predominantly of Kazakhstan nationals to manage our operations out there."
Nico's experienced engineers will supplement the local know-how, with their expertise and oversee the operations, guaranteeing the quality of workmanship as an extension to its ISO9001 quality management system.
