Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) has three decades of experience and proven methodologies that can get one from concept to first oil, and from first oil to the revenue streams that keep the business growing with safety and efficiency in mind every step of the way, according to Jon Helsingeng, marketing manager, Oil & Gas - EMEA.
A division of Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions, HPS serves the process and hybrid industries including refining, oil and gas, pulp and paper, mining, minerals and metals, bulk and batch chemicals, pharmaceuticals and power generation.
The company says it offers leading edge automation and control solutions, equipment and services. Its leading product Experion PKS, the next-generation Process Knowledge System (PKS), was released in January 2003.
It uses state-of-the-art technologies to deliver improved process efficiency and significantly enhanced asset uptime and reliability, operator effectiveness and business decision-making, says Helsingeng.
The company has recently released a new version of it called Experion PKS R300, an innovative automation platform delivering ‘exceptional’ business benefits from new hardware and functionality features.
Its hardware reduces space occupied in control room, reduces customers’ installation and maintenance costs and extends the life of the system. Its software enhances functionality, minimises incidents and increases protection of system and system data.
HPS is leading the industry in the areas of process knowledge systems, safety systems, simulation technology, wireless field devices, and integrated facility and process security systems. Through partnerships, acquisitions and internal research and development, Honeywell continues to evolve its technology. Experion R300 is only the latest example. Some of the others include:
• Honeywell’s Safety Manager, is the first safety instrumented system (SIS) to earn certification from TUV Rhineland for Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 applications;
• Honeywell is the first industrial automation company to offer integrated industrial security systems that link physical security, building and process control security and cyber security;
• Honeywell recently launched its XYR 5000 family of wireless transmitters, which measure and communicate process variables without using wires or external power;
• Yokagawa recently joined the Honeywell PKS Advantage Program, which brings together process automation suppliers to develop integrated asset solutions;
• Honeywell acquired the intellectual property of the HYSYS modeling software and Operator Training Simulation (OTS) business form Aspen Technology Inc. The acquired technologies extend Experion’s capabilities by improving its ability to gather data throughout the plant and couple it with domain knowledge embedded in HYSYS models and Honeywell’s Advanced Solutions portfolio; and
• Honeywell recently launched its UniSim simulation solution, which allows processors and manufacturers to more easily capture and share process knowledge, improve plant profitability, reduce engineering costs and maximise the return on their simulations investments.
The company says it has best-in-class project delivery capability including the industry’s leading safety record.
“Around 98 percent of our projects are completed on time and on or under budget. This is made possible by 3,000 skilled project engineers and consultants with a proven track record of executing successful projects around the world,” he says.
For existing facilities, Honeywell provides a full range of services that support continuous improvement and process management, including serving several of its customers as the main automation contractor (MAC) for process facilities.
The company has been operating in the Middle East for 30 years. Its first contract was for a control equipment project for Aramco 1946.
Its Middle East headquarters located in Abu Dhabi comprises over 90 industry experts with regional offices in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Egypt, Qatar and Bahrain. The regional headquarters houses the sales, aftermarket services and project execution departments.
It employs over 400 specialists across the Middle East to become the region’s leading supplier of advanced control technology for the oil and gas, hydrocarbon processing, power generation, refining, chemical and petrochemical industries.
To help manage its growth, the company has built a new integration center to verify and test clients’ systems.
This technical exercise was previously performed only in the United States and Europe. Located at regional headquarters, the new center spans 1,000 square metres, not including the 230-square meter facility already in existence.
In 1995 the company set up the Honeywell Middle East Automation College in Abu Dhabi to enhance local capabilities, the college is a world-class training centre for its customers, staff and university students in process control. It houses state-of-the-art equipment and brings the latest technologies, knowledge and experience from Honeywell’s global resource pool.
Some of its customers are Saudi Aramco, Adnoc, Zadco, Adgas, Gasco, Adco, KJO, Sabic, Alba, KOC, KNPC, Equate, SEC, QP, Qafco, Qapco, Q-Chem, QVC, PDO, Dolphin Energy Project, GPIC and KPPC.
