Background
Public Works Authority (Ashghal) plans to execute a strategic drainage network programme, the Inner Doha Resewerage Implementation Strategy (Idris), which is developed to meet the long-term demands of the South Doha catchment for the next 50 years. The project is part of Ashghal’s strategy to deliver world standard infrastructure that goes in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

Project status
August 2014: The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for Package 2 is likely to be awarded in September 2014.

Project scope
The project will be divided into three main areas of Qatar:

• The project comprises a conveyance system consisting of 40 km of deep main trunk sewer and over 70 km of lateral interceptor sewers;

• One large and approximately 60 m deep terminal pump station; and

• New Doha South advanced sewage treatment works with an initial capacity of 500 million litres per day and more than 70 km of treated sewage effluent return mains and pump station.

The project will decommission over 30 ageing pump stations in the inner city area of Doha and replace them with a single large deep terminal pump station 30km outside Doha.
