Name of Client : Green Hydrogen and Chemicals

Estimated Budget : $6,000,000,000

Facility Type :  Hydrogeng

Sector : Power, Renewable

Main Contractor : Cleantech Solutions, Thyssen-Krupp Industrial Solutions

Location : Duqm, Oman

Award Date :  2022-Q2

Background

ACME Solar Holdings and Scatec plan to invest in manufacturing green ammonia and green hydrogen in Oman. The first phase of the facility is expected to produce 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually with about 300 MW of electrolyser capacity and powered by about 500 MW of solar. Once fully developed the facility is expected to produce up to 1.2 million tonnes of green ammonia annually. The facility will be located in the Duqm Special Economic Zone of Oman and will supply green ammonia to Europe, America, and the Asia region.

Project Status

As of November 2024, The soft activities of the plants' construction have begun and the long lead items procurement is underway. The foundation work of the ammonia tanks is ongoing, ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions is the EPC contractor.

Project Scope

The scope of work encompasses the development of a large-scale green ammonia manufacturing plant, designed to produce 2,200 metric tonnes of green ammonia per day. In its first phase, the green ammonia project is projected to yield approximately 100,000 tonnes per annum. Key components of the project include a desalination plant with a capacity of 8 million liters per day, a storage facility capable of holding 60 tonnes of hydrogen, and another storage facility with a capacity of 30,000 tonnes of green ammonia. Additionally, the project will feature 486 photovoltaic solar arrays and a 23 MW electrolyser plant, as well as a Haber-Bosch loop to facilitate the ammonia synthesis process.

Project Finance

The project is owned by India's ACME Group.

In March 2022, ACME Group and Scatec ASA signed an agreement to establish a 50/50 joint venture to develop and own the green ammonia facility.

In June 2022, ACME Group and Scatec have formed a company named Green Hydrogen and Chemicals (GHC) to own, develop and operate the project.

In April 2023, Scatec withdrew from the joint venture, leaving ACME as the sole owner of the project.

An investment of around $6 billion is envisioned in the development of the completed 1.2 million tonnes per annum capacity scheme over 2 phases.
