Ametek adds explosion-proof enclosures to 993X gas analysers

The new design supports analyser installation without the need for purge gas

Ametek Process Instruments has expanded its 993X series of gas analysers with new explosion-proof enclosures certified for ATEX and IECEx Zone 1 hazardous locations.

The new enclosures are available for both the 993X and 9933 analyser models and are designed for installations where purge gas is unavailable or impractical.

The company said the design addresses installation challenges in remote locations and facilities with limited utility infrastructure.

Rated IP66 and NEMA 4X, the enclosure is suitable for outdoor use and operation in environments with minimal temperature control.

By eliminating the need for a continuous inert purge gas supply, the system can reduce installation complexity, operating costs, and supporting infrastructure requirements.

“Many customers rely on purge-protected analysers, but those systems are not practical in every Zone 1 location,” said Michael Gaura, senior product manager at Ametek Process Instruments. “The explosion proof 993X gives users a robust alternative that maintains measurement performance.”

The 993X series uses ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy to continuously measure sulphur compounds and other components in natural gas and biomethane streams, including hydrogen sulphide, carbonyl sulphide, and methyl mercaptan.

The analysers are also used in sulphur recovery and sulphur removal processes to monitor sulphur dioxide and carbon disulfide, supporting process control, emissions compliance, and product quality.

Additional technologies can be integrated to measure hydrogen and carbon dioxide concentrations where required.

According to Ametek, the addition of explosion-proof certifications expands deployment options for analyser shelters and hazardous area installations across oil and gas production, processing, and renewable gas applications.
