The oil and gas industry has long been using metallic materials for its piping systems, which are vulnerable to internal and external corrosion most especially in the harsh environment of the Middle East.
Corrosion has been a prevalent problem not only in this field of application but also in some other areas where metallic piping systems are used. This factor alone costs users of metallic piping a tremendous amount of money for maintenance and replacements. To solve this problem, Amiantit Pipe Systems introduced a cost-effective and innovative solution.
Bondstrand(r) Fiberglass-Reinforced Thermosetting Resin (RTR) pipe systems, the product of Bondstrand Ltd. Dammam, one of Amiantit's Group of companies has been proven to be highly effective in moving fluids for many years. It is an answer to corrosion problems and a cost-effective alternative to metallic piping systems; extensively used by oil and gas companies in the Middle East.
Bondstrand piping systems have dependably served virtually every application where resistance to internal and external corrosion is required at reasonable cost. Designed for a minimum service life of 25 years, Bondstrand RTR products are suitable for above-ground, underground, and submerged applications.
The Cost-Effective Alternative
A comparison of costs of Bondstrand piping system with conventional steel mechanical system shows noticeable savings during the service life of the piping system.
Though Bondstrand RTR may be a little more than steel in terms of material cost, significant savings can be attained partly in terms of pre-fabrication and installation and greatly in terms of maintenance and repairs.
Bondstrand pre-fabricated spools are specially assembled or fabricated combinations of pipes and fittings intended to provide products which are custom-built for specific requirements. These shop-prefabricated spools allow for in-plant hydrotesting prior to delivery to the job site and lessens the number of field joints assembled at the site, thus, resulting in lower installation costs and shorter installation period. In contrast, similar spool configurations of steel or metallic materials require that they be done in the field or the job site, resulting in additional installation cost and time.
Bondstrand products are lightweight (1/6 the weight of steel pipe) and therefore easy to install. This factor provides for reduced manpower and equipment requirements - a considerable installation time and cost reduction, as compared to steel piping materials.
With its smooth inner pipe surface, Bondstrand RTR offers very low resistance to flow, higher flow capacity, and the use of smaller-diameter pipe. These, in turn, lead to reduced energy costs for pumping.
Advice at Every Project Stage
Aside from the high quality RTR products, Bondstrand also boasts technical support at every stage of the project from planning to installation. Assistance in pipe design, calculations, and engineering can be provided to clients.
Field service support and supervision are available at the installation stage provided by Bondstrand's field engineers to assist the client's nominated contractor.
In addition, field service engineers also provide training to the client's field crew on Bondstrand installation procedures and techniques. Any other technical assistance the client may need throughout the project can be provided.
Stringent Quality Control/Quality Assurance
In order to satisfy customer requirements, Bondstrand RTR products undergo strict in-process inspections and tests, including tests of raw materials used in the manufacture of the products.
Proof of Bondstrand's commitment to quality is exhibited by worldwide approvals and certifications by various companies and certifying organisations which include ISO 9001 for Quality Management Systems, National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) for potable water, Factory Mutual (FM) for firewater, and API 15LR for oil and gas applications.
