An innovative choke device for use at wellheads has been developed by a KOC Production Operations Department employee.
The choke has been described by General Superintendent Production Operations Department (South) Eng. Marzouq Bou Arki as an ''excellent innovation'' and said that its use would save effort and time when changing the chokes at wellheads.
The choke is a small valve hat which controls the oil flowing from the wells according to the required quantity of production.
The innovator Abdulla Sinan, a well inspector, said that he had noticed that there were approximately 21 different kinds of chokes with differing sizes, and that changing them to control the well production took time, effort and a great deal of equipment.
The new choke can be used easily and changed manually at any time, without using any equipment. This device was experimented at one of the wells and proved highly successful.
The new device is currently under assessment for use at all the wells instead of the current chokes.
