APCO to provide coatings for Saudi Aramco project

ShawCor Ltd said that its joint venture affiliate Arabian Pipecoating Company Limited (APCO) has received a contract with a total value in excess of $60 million to provide anti-corrosion and internal flow efficiency coatings and double jointing for the Saudi Aramco Khurais Pipeline Project.

The pipe will be coated with Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) Powder and a FBE internal anticorrosion coating at the APCO pipe coating facility located at Al Jubail in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Over 2,200 km of pipe in various sizes from 8” through 60” diameter will be used for crude oil production and to carry salt water from the Arabian Gulf to the Khurais field where it will be used to provide enhanced oil recovery.
APCO provides external FBE coatings and internal linings, external multilayer polyethylene and polypropylene coatings, double jointing, field joint protection and custom coating services to serve the oil, gas and water industries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Gulf region.
ShawCor Ltd is a growth-oriented, global energy services company that operates through six divisions which focus on technology-based products and services for the pipeline and pipe services and the petrochemical and industrial markets with manufacturing and service facilities located in over twenty countries around the world.
The APCO joint venture is affiliated with Bredero Shaw, ShawCor’s largest division, which is the global leader in pipe coating solutions and employs approximately 4,000 permanent and contract personnel located at offices and facilities in 15 countries.
The division provides specialized coating systems and related services for corrosion protection, insulation and weight coating applications on land and marine pipelines including highly engineered corrosion and insulation systems for deepwater applications.
ShawCor also said that its subsidiaries, Shaw Pipe Protection Limited and ShawCor Pipe Protection, LLC, have received a contract from Oregon Steel Mills, Inc to provide anti-corrosion and internal flow efficiency coatings for a significant portion of the Kinder Morgan Rockies Express Pipeline Project, a venture of Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, Sempra Pipelines and Storage and ConocoPhillips.
Approximately 4.1 million feet (1,230 km) of 42 inch pipe for the initial phase of this project will be coated with fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) and SureFlo FEC internal flow efficiency coatings at Shaw Pipe Protection’s Camrose, Alberta facility and ShawCor Pipe Protection’s Portland, Oregon facility.
This large diameter 2,682 km pipeline will transmit natural gas from gas fields in Colorado and Wyoming to consumers in the Midwest and the Eastern United States.
ShawCor Pipe Protection’s Portland facility is under construction adjacent to Oregon Steel Mill’s new large diameter pipe manufacturing facility, which is currently nearing completion.
This new pipe coating plant is designed to apply FBE on pipe up to 60” in diameter. In addition to FBE, the facility will apply SureFlo FEC internal flow efficiency coatings that are used to improve the flow efficiency of natural gas in pipelines.
Shaw Pipe Protections’s Camrose facility offers state of the art pipe coating products including FBE and High Performance Composite Coating (HPCC) for pipe up to 48” in diameter.
Shaw Pipe Protection and ShawCor Pipe Protection are part of Bredero Shaw, ShawCor’s largest division, which is the global leader in pipe coating solutions and employs approximately 4,000 permanent and contract personnel located at offices and facilities around the world.
