Background
Al Shaheen field is located in block 5 offshore northern Qatar and is operated under a production sharing agreement on behalf of Qatar Petroleum. The oilfield concession is currently under open bidding as of Q2 2015.
Project Status
June 2016: QP and France’s Total have established 'North Oil', a new company to jointly develop and operate Al Shaheen.France’s Total wins the bid for the 30 per cent stake to operate the Al Shaheen Offshore project.QP will keep the remaining 70 per cent in the new joint venture for the Al Shaheen field.
Project scope
The scope of the work includes:
• Drilling of some 40 new production wells
• 20 new water injection wells
• Conversion of 14 existing wells to water injection
• Construction and installation of new production platforms, interconnected with pipelines,
• Facilities for gas compression
• A gas export pipeline to Qatar Petroleum’s North Field Alpha platform, offshore Qatar
• A number of appraisal wells will be drilled to evaluate possible further production potential
Project finance
This project client is Qatar Petroleum, who has operated the field jointly with Maersk Oil since 1992. The current agreement for Maersk Oil expires in mid-2017 and the field development is under advisement for open tender of new concession holder since Q2 2015.
