The GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GVH) BWRX-300 small modular reactor (SMR) has completed Step 2 of the UK’s Generic Design Assessment (GDA), following Step 1 in December 2024.

UK regulators confirmed no fundamental safety, security, or environmental issues with the design.

Orlen Synthos Green Energy co-invested in the GDA to gain regulatory insights for deployment in Poland and Eastern Europe.

Globally, the first BWRX-300 is under construction at Ontario Power Generation’s Darlington site, with TVA reviewing a US application.
