Vaisala expands dew point tech for hazardous areas

0/0
Vaisala DMP probes measure process-gas dew point across varied conditions.

Vaisala has launched the DMP370 Intrinsically Safe Dew Point Instrument, extending its DRYCAP dew point technology to hazardous industrial environments.

The instrument provides continuous, drift-compensated moisture measurement in applications where combustible gases or dust may be present, including hydrogen production, renewable and natural gas infrastructure, chemical processing and battery manufacturing.

The DMP370 combines Vaisala’s DMP37X probe and HMT370EX transmitter in an intrinsically safe design that limits electrical energy to prevent ignition in explosive atmospheres.

It provides uninterrupted measurement, addressing limitations of systems that require additional protective enclosures or periodically interrupt monitoring for regeneration and heating cycles.

Reliable moisture measurement is increasingly important as hydrogen, biomethane and other decarbonised gas markets expand.

Excess moisture can affect fuel-cell performance, reduce process efficiency, shorten equipment life and increase operational risks across gas infrastructure, electrolysers and industrial processes.

Vaisala said the DMP370 is designed for both emerging and established applications. In hydrogen markets, it can monitor production, storage, fuel cells and electrolyser output.

Other applications include biomethane upgrading, natural gas pipelines, synthetic fuels such as eSAF, methanol production, pharmaceuticals, electronics manufacturing and oil and gas operations.

The instrument also supports dry-process battery manufacturing where combustible carbon dust may be present, as well as compressed air, nitrogen, inerting and purge-gas applications.

The DMP370 marks the first application of Vaisala’s DRYCAP technology in hazardous locations, combining continuous gas-quality monitoring with intrinsic safety for industrial environments requiring certified equipment.
