Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has signed a three-year integrated drilling services contract with Weatherford covering 274 wells in the Marmul and Greater Saqar areas, supporting efforts to increase production and improve operational efficiency.

Weatherford will drill oil production and water injection wells under a phased programme designed to improve execution, planning and allocation of drilling rigs and resources across the targeted fields.

The contracting model is expected to reduce costs by approximately 20 per cent compared with conventional pricing models, while improving cost control and accountability for delivery and results.

The agreement covers smaller fields developed under a unified model and is intended to provide greater efficiency through coordinated drilling activities.

PDO said the contract will support responsible production growth and help maximise the value of Oman’s hydrocarbon resources.

The deal also emphasises in-country value, with PDO and Weatherford expected to support local capability development, Omani talent and opportunities across the domestic energy supply chain.

The contract forms part of PDO’s broader efforts to strengthen long-term partnerships with oilfield service providers while improving commercial efficiency and maintaining high standards for health, safety, environmental performance and quality.

Weatherford’s work will contribute to PDO’s production and field-development objectives, while the phased approach is expected to provide greater flexibility in deploying equipment, personnel and other resources.

The agreement strengthens collaboration between PDO and Weatherford as Oman continues efforts to enhance hydrocarbon production, operational performance and local economic value across its energy sector.
