The African Development Bank has approved a $10 million SEFA loan to Hyphen Hydrogen Energy to advance a $10 billion green ammonia project in Namibia.

The funding will support front-end engineering and design studies for renewable power, storage, electrolysers, and desalination, helping de-risk the project and attract private investment.

Leveraging Namibia’s solar and wind resources, the first phase includes 3.75 GW of renewables and 1.5 GW of electrolyser capacity.

The project aims to produce 2 million tonnes of green ammonia annually, cut 5 million tonnes of carbon emissions, create thousands of jobs, and position Namibia as a green hydrogen leader.
