Green hydrogen growth accelerates

Low-carbon hydrogen production remained largely flat for years but began accelerating recently, reaching 0.84 mtpa in 2024.

Global capacity is projected to expand sharply by 2030, reaching 65.3 mtpa in a high-case scenario and 42 mtpa in a low case, according to GlobalData.

Green hydrogen is expected to dominate with an 88.6 per cent share by 2030, overtaking blue hydrogen, which led in 2024.

Current capacity stands at 1.7 mtpa, with green hydrogen at 14.9 per cent.

Strong policy support is driving growth across the Americas, particularly in the US and Canada, while Mexico is still in the early stages of hydrogen development but exploring future export potential.
