BANAGAS WAS incorporated in 1979 with the objective of achieving optimum utilisation of natural gas resources in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Today, plant capacity is 280 million standard cu ft of gas per day, two and a half times the Company's original production capacity following a series of expansion projects over the years.
Banagas currently produces approximately 3,000 barrels per day (bpd) of propane, 2,700 barrels of butane and 4,500 barrels of naphtha.
The Company also supplies an extended fuel gas network, using approximately 220 million standard cu ft per day of surplus residue gas to meet local industrial requirements, namely Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), Bapco and Riffa Power Station.
Over the last 20 years of successful operation, Banagas has flourished into a corporate entity with nearly 350 employees, 93 per cent of whom are Bahraini nationals, and the Company has received national and international recognition for its achievements in productivity, safety, quality and human resource development.
Banagas was a proud winner of His Highness the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Industry in its inaugural year. Strict criteria are used for granting this Award including productivity, export, industrial safety and community support.
The unique culture of Banagas is represented by the way in which it manages its operations, in its resources planning, its core values, beliefs and practices which are essential in achieving success. This has created the appropriate environment for individual initiative, growth and development.
Banagas firmly believes in providing a sound working environment based on professional values and teamwork, and in the development of a highly skilled national workforce.
This is reflected in the quality of its people, its business strategies and its commitment to continuous improvement.
The modern Banagas places great emphasis on promoting high standards of performance, and it is among the most admired companies in Bahrain today.
The Company launched its corporate identity programme last year to build on its success and to position itself for the challenges that lie ahead.
The Company has conducted a series of workshops involving executive and middle management teams to identify the strategies it must adopt for the future if it is to develop into an even more effective organisation.
So that all employees understand and can identify with these changes, Banagas developed a business model setting its distinct corporate identity.
The model reflects the five fundamentals considered necessary for success:
Through this programme, Banagas has succeeded in gaining the support of its employees to enhance its corporate culture and achieve excellence in performance. The Company has also built on its success and ensured that it has the optimum culture, values, style and business processes in place, in addition to fostering a cohesive spirit and encouraging teamwork among employees.
The Company has also identified seven strategies objectives which it always strives to achieve as part of its short, medium and long term business performance improvement.
These objectives are related to profitability, costs, quality, liquids production, plant reliability, environment, health and safety and human resources.
Banagas is also proud of its achievement based on its key performance indicators (KPI).
These indicators, monitored every month and reported to all employees, are the Company's business success criteria.
The KPIs consider a Company balanced scorecard which consists of four main aspects: Financial, Customer, Internal Business Process and the Learning and Growth of Human Resources.
