Hyundai completes major Jafurah Gas facilities

Hyundai Engineering and Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C) have completed Phase 1 of the Jafurah Gas Processing Facilities Project in Saudi Arabia for Aramco, marking a milestone in the Kingdom’s unconventional gas programme.

Valued at $1.65 billion, the project was executed over 45 months from November 2021 to August 2025.

The consortium constructed gas processing facilities, sulphur recovery units and related utility and offsite infrastructure to process gas from the Jafurah unconventional gas field.

Jafurah covers about 17,000 sq km and is estimated to hold around 200 trillion cubic feet of gas resources.

Aramco targets sustainable sales gas production of approximately 2 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2030.

The Phase 1 completion strengthened Hyundai Engineering’s relationship with Aramco and supported its award of the $2.3 billion Phase 2 project in December 2023.

The second phase includes additional gas processing facilities and sulphur recovery infrastructure.

Jafurah forms a key part of Aramco’s wider unconventional gas programme, which also includes NGL fractionation, gas compression, pipelines and associated infrastructure.

Aramco has previously said contracts worth $10 billion have been awarded for the field’s initial development phase.
