Oman Cables Industry has officially launched the Global Sustainability Academy, establishing the first institution of its kind within Oman.

This initiative represents a strategic advancement in the company's commitment to promoting sustainable practices through the creation of an integrated platform that unites over 30,000 employees worldwide alongside partners, stakeholders, and local community institutions, reported ONA.

The academy will serve as a hub for knowledge exchange, expertise sharing, and the development of practical sustainability solutions aligned with national priorities to accelerate the sustainable transformation of Oman's energy sector and support economic diversification objectives.

The inauguration ceremony was held under the patronage of Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, marking a significant milestone in Oman's sustainability journey.

Strategically located within the Rusayl Industrial City, which serves as both the headquarters of Oman Cables Industry and the regional headquarters for Prysmian Group across the Middle East, Russia, and Turkey, the academy integrates hands-on education with digital learning methodologies.

This comprehensive approach aims to cultivate sustainability culture and competencies that serve as strategic drivers for enhancing business competitiveness in the global marketplace.

The academy features state-of-the-art facilities, including Oman's first solar flower installation, parking facilities equipped with solar panels and wind turbines, and extensive utilisation of recycled construction materials.

These innovative installations support the academy's educational programmes by providing an interactive training environment that enables participants to explore practical applications in climate action, responsible resource management, and sustainable innovation.

Dr. Saleh bin Said Masan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion for Commerce and Industry, emphasised that "the academy represents a practical model for translating national priorities into sustainable reality, contributing to the establishment of a knowledge-based economy and building national capabilities through the integration of sustainability and innovation concepts within the industrial sector – elements critically important for future industries."

He further noted that such initiatives demonstrate the Ministry's commitment to strengthening public-private partnerships that support economic diversification efforts while empowering Omani professionals to lead the transition toward a more competitive economy built upon low-emission industrial foundations.

Cinzia Farise Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Oman Cables Industry, stated: "The establishment of the Global Sustainability Academy constitutes a pivotal step in Oman Cables' strategic vision to evolve beyond traditional manufacturing into a comprehensive provider of sustainable solutions and services. This initiative contributes significantly to energy transformation while fostering a diverse, inclusive industrial ecosystem that explores new horizons, positioning the company as an active enabler of national capabilities and competencies."

She further elaborated that the initiative synergises the company's global expertise with the proficiency of its Omani workforce to build sustainable value that stimulates industrial sector growth.

The project reflects broader ambitions to embed sustainability principles throughout business operations, drive innovation-led growth, and ensure the company's continued contribution to enhancing Oman's industrial strength while supporting the nation's transition toward a sustainable economic model.

The academy's launch strategically coincides with Omani Youth Day, during which Oman Cables Industry announced the "Omani Young Leaders" programme.

This international specialised initiative focuses on developing the next generation of leaders through comprehensive training designed to prepare young Omani engineers for future leadership roles in modern manufacturing and energy sectors.

The programme incorporates international training assignments and management development curricula delivered through Prysmian's global network.

The programme further aims to cultivate national competencies and specialised skills that facilitate the localisation and advancement of emerging sectors, while strengthening the presence of qualified Omani professionals capable of steering the industrial sector toward a prosperous and ambitious future.

The Global Sustainability Academy operates as an integral component of the Prysmian Group's worldwide academy network, representing a strategic partnership with Oman Cables Industry.

This collaboration marks a significant achievement in the company's roadmap to connect Oman's industrial sector with international platforms for expertise and knowledge exchange.

This comprehensive programme forms part of concerted efforts to transfer global experiences, expertise, and knowledge to the local market, while simultaneously developing skills, supporting innovation, promoting sustainable growth, building national capacity, empowering Omani youth, establishing a knowledge-based economy, and contributing to the realisation of both the "Oman Vision 2040" and Oman's 2050 carbon neutrality objectives.
