Canrig is preparing to introduce its Canrig Titan automated wrench to the Eastern Hemisphere in early 2027, expanding access to a field-proven connection solution designed to improve consistency, safety and efficiency in tubular make-up operations.
The move follows successful deployments and growing adoption
in North America, as drilling contractors face increasing pressure to manage
complex drilling programmes while reducing operational variability and total
cost of ownership.
Connection quality, torque consistency, equipment wear and
delays can significantly affect productive rig time and overall well economics.
The Canrig Titan combines automated operation with a
three-jaw clamping design, dynamic gripping technology and active centralizers.
The system is engineered to provide balanced gripping around
the pipe, maintain alignment and support more consistent torque application.
"Canrig Titan is a high-performance automated wrench
designed to support current and future drilling projects while delivering a
lower total cost of ownership," said Camilo Rivera, director of New
Product Development at Canrig.
According to Canrig, testing under identical operating
conditions and torque requirements showed the Titan reduced make-up sequence
time by 40% and break-out sequence time by 30% compared with a competitor
wrench. The tool also maintained a 1.0 bite count across every make-up and
break-out connection during testing.
The company said the results demonstrate potential for
faster connection execution, fewer re-bites and greater repeatability at the
well centre.
"I am most proud of how Canrig Titan™ is performing in
the field," said Jason Crummel, mechanical engineer, New Product
Development at Canrig. "The positive feedback coming from the rigs running
this tool validates the hard work and dedication that went into its
development."
Canrig said customer feedback was central to the development
process, with the Titan™ designed to address practical challenges encountered
during drilling operations while supporting the industry's wider shift toward
automation.
"Canrig Titan was developed with a strong focus on
solving real customer challenges," said Shubhangi Dalavi, product line
manager at Canrig. "It provides a practical pathway for customers to adopt
automation while creating opportunities to continue advancing operational
performance as their needs evolve."
The Eastern Hemisphere launch represents the next phase of
Canrig's global automation strategy.
The company said the technology is designed to help
contractors improve connection quality, increase productive rig time and reduce
lifecycle costs while supporting safer and more consistent well-centre
operations.
With drilling programmes becoming increasingly complex,
Canrig is positioning the Titan as a practical automation solution for
contractors seeking to improve operational performance without compromising
reliability.
The company’s expansion into the Eastern Hemisphere is
expected to broaden the tool’s international adoption and support continued
development of automated drilling technologies.
Canrig says the Titan combines field-tested performance,
operational consistency and automation-ready technology under its central
proposition: “One Bite. Every Time.” -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
