ACWA has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Mongolia’s Sun Steppe Power to explore the development of renewable energy projects in Mongolia for cross-border electricity exports to China.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 25th WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh, which is being hosted by Saudi Arabia through October 15 as part of Energy Week. ‘

The signing took place in the presence of Energy Minister and Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz and ACWA Chairman Mohammad Abunayyan.

Under the memorandum, the two companies will assess opportunities to develop renewable power generation facilities in Mongolia, alongside utility-scale battery energy storage systems to support solar and wind power generation.

The cooperation will also cover the transmission and export infrastructure required to deliver electricity to China or other markets mutually agreed upon by the two parties.

The memorandum provides a framework for evaluating a cross-border renewable energy project with a targeted capacity of 4.5 gigawatts (GW), supported by a 500-megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
