Blackstone has announced the final close of Blackstone Energy Transition Partners V (BETP V) at $8.7 billion, making it more than 50 per cent larger than its predecessor fund.
The vehicle was significantly oversubscribed and reached its
hard cap, reflecting investor demand for the firm’s energy transition
investment strategy.
Blackstone Energy Transition Partners (BETP) focuses on
building large-scale energy businesses that support growing global demand for
cleaner, more reliable and affordable energy.
As of June 30, the strategy had generated a 34 per cent net internal rate of return (IRR) since 1997.
In 2025, BETP was named Fund Manager of the Year – Equity
for North America by IJ Investor.
David Foley, Global Head of Blackstone Energy Transition
Partners, said: “We believe there is a generational opportunity for experienced
investors in the energy transition to provide solutions to the challenges posed
by growing demand for electricity. By backing exceptional management teams with
flexible, patient equity capital to increase manufacturing capacity, recruit
and train skilled labour and construct new critical energy infrastructure
assets, BETP is delivering those solutions and in the process building these
companies to scale, creating jobs and generating lasting value for our
investors. We are deeply grateful for the trust of our investors and look
forward to deploying BETP V in investments that advance the transition to a
more affordable, reliable and cleaner energy future.”
BETP V began its investment period in June and has already
funded three platform companies: Kindle, Fisterra and Viridon.
These investments support the development and operation of
new power generation capacity and electricity transmission infrastructure.
The fund has also completed three acquisitions focused on
energy efficiency and infrastructure resilience: Flow Control Holdings, a US
provider of engineered flow-control components for data centre liquid cooling;
Dresser Utility Solutions, which supplies measurement, control and repair
products for gas and water utilities; and DarkVision, a technology-enabled
inspection services provider for critical energy infrastructure.
Since January 2025, BETP has committed more than $11 billion
in new equity investments across the energy transition sector.
Investments include power equipment manufacturers such as
Maclean Power Systems and Delta Star, essential services providers Alliance
Technical Group and Shermco, energy analytics company Enverus, and natural
gas-fired power infrastructure projects.
The firm has also monetised several mature investments in
predecessor funds.
These include an agreement to sell Aypa Power, which has a
6.0-gigawatt battery storage portfolio; the sale of a majority stake in
infrastructure manufacturer Sabre Industries; and the initial public offering
of Legence, a provider of engineering and mechanical contracting services for
data centres, healthcare and other specialised commercial and industrial
markets.
The fund’s close and investment activity highlight BETP’s continued focus on energy generation, grid infrastructure, efficiency and reliability. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
