

Every company has challenges it must meet and Hempel is no different.
The key to success depends on finding innovative and effective solutions to those challenges.
A robust strategy begins with a unifying mission and vision. The mission and vision statement of the company has been defined and established among all the Hempel Group associates worldwide.
At Hempel Middle East-West, a simultaneous event was held on January 8, 2007 at the same time in Bahrain, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia (Dammam, Riyadh, and Jeddah) to brief all the staff and factory workers of the mission and vision of the company, a global challenge among all Hempel associates worldwide that must be met over a five-year period.
Nigel Preece was appointed ambassador of the event for Hempel Bahrain, Tony Torbey for Kuwait, Yusuf Al-Sayed in Dammam, Ian McCahill in Jeddah and Ahmed Abdl Aziz in Riyadh.
Three foundations for the company’s future were laid out during the briefing. First, building competencies to ensure that all Hempel staff have the skills and capabilities to meet the company’s strategic objectives.
Second is alignment of internal processes, procedures, principles, roles, responsibilities and communication to synchronise activities across Regions and Functions and meet common challenges as a united company.
Third is to prioritise the standardisation of our technology and operational procedures in order to simplify the way we work and improve efficiency. After the briefing, all employees were challenged to portray the company’s new vision through a painting contest, themed as “Painting Hempel”, in which they were organised into groups and paint into their canvasses how they interpreted the new mission and vision of the company within a 45-minute time frame.
Each group explained in writing their interpretation of their painting. The unified judging and selection process were explained to them, including those of other Hempel associates worldwide.
All the participants themselves have to cast their votes for the best painting in the region, which will be endorsed to the Hempel headquarters in Denmark and compete with those that were also selected in other countries.
The winners will be announced soon and will be rewarded with corresponding prizes and given due recognition through the Group Newsletter and the Intranet.
