OQ, state-owned integrated energy company in Oman, is one of three finalists in the 2022 Going Digital Awards in Infrastructure in the Process and Power Generation category.

The annual awards programme honours the extraordinary work of Bentley software users advancing infrastructure design, construction, and operations throughout the world.

Eleven independent jury panels selected the 36 finalists from over 300 nominations submitted by more than 180 organisations from 47 countries encompassing 12 categories.

To improve asset performance and reliability and ensure safe and reliable plant operations, OQ wanted to digitalise its asset management processes.

Scattered paper asset data records and previous reactive maintenance methods proved costly and ineffective, and OQ realised it needed to establish a centralised digital asset performance management (APM) system.

So it selected Bentley’s AssetWise application for asset and network performance as its central asset data management platform, incorporating failure reporting and analysis, asset health indicators, and digital inspection strategies to enable corrective maintenance management.

Its digitalised APM system reduced asset failures and unplanned plant shutdowns, minimising environmental risks of flaring.

Based on APM implementation at one compressor site, the digital solution saved 14.8 per cent in total maintenance costs and reduced functional failures by 50 per cent to achieve an annual operational reliability growth of 4.3 per cent.

Continuing to digitise, OQ is integrating APM as part of its efforts to develop a digital twin.

The Process and Power Generation category recognises projects that demonstrate going digital innovations in the planning, design, and construction of new or major refits to industrial process or power generation plants, as well as the ongoing operations and maintenance of existing facilities.

It could include oil and gas facilities both onshore and offshore, metals and minerals processing, petrochemical and chemical plants, nuclear, fossil, and renewable energy power generation.

Project should demonstrate either an alternative approach to design that helps boost productivity, uses new construction methods, innovative equipment or materials to improve sustainability, or transformed processes during operations to increase efficiency, safety, and reliability. The winners will be revealed on November 15 during the 2022 Going Digital Awards in Infrastructure celebrations in London at the Intercontinental Park Lane.
