Russian firm is eyeing Tupras

Russia’s No 6 oil firm Tatneft may bid again for Turkey’s oil refiner Tupras  if the state decides to go ahead with a new tender, a Russian official has said.

Mintimer Shaimiyev, president of the Russian Volga republic of Tatarstan, which controls Tatneft, said in a statement he believed the first privatisation attempt had failed due to political reasons.
“If new terms are attractive, we will participate,” Shaimiyev said .
The tender failed after Turkey’s top administrative court annulled in November 2004 the $1.3-billion sale of a 65.76 per cent stake in Tupras, the largest Turkish company in terms of revenues, to a joint venture between Tatneft and local group Zorlu.
The Turkish finance minister said this month the government may try to resell Tupras.
