

Providing a comprehensive design and detailing facility for pressure vessels, tanks and steel structures - both computerised and manual - Geyad for Commerce and Import Company (GCI) has performed prestigious work throughout the industrial cities of Jubail and Yanbu.
Work includes the supply of steel structure for the purified terepthalic acid (PTA) project at Arabian Industrial Fibers Company (Ibn Rushd) in Yanbu to the supply of fabrication and delivery of steel structures for the low density polyethylene (LDPE) project at Al Jubail Petrochemical Company (Kemya) in Jubail and a major portion of the steel structure, ducts and buckstays for Saudi Sceco's (Saudi Electric Company) Ghazlan Power Plant.
GCI has also participated in Saudi Aramco's Ras Tanura Refinery upgrade by supplying 1,000 tonnes of structural steel in 1997 and 1998.
For Saudi Aramco's Sulayyil bulk plant, GCI has supplied product recovery of a carbon steel storage tank (65,000 litre capacity) and raw water storage tank (38,000 litres capacity), along with diesel generator fuel and kerosene storage tanks.
On a regular basis Geyad takes part in various Saudi Aramco projects, such as cement lining of pipes, pipe sleeve welding, external fusion-bonded epoxy coating of pipes and pipe spools, according to the company.
GCI says that it employs qualified engineers who are experienced in the design of steel structures, pressure vessels and tanks to meet customer specifications and international standards.
GCI's product portfolio falls into five principal categories: shop-fabricated pipe spools to ASME/ANSI B31.2, B31.3 and as per client requirement; shop-fabricated storage tanks (water, chemical and oil) to API650, API620, UL-142, ANSI/AWWA D100-84; shop-fabricated steel structures to AISC manual for steel construction and British Standard (BS); pressure vessels according to 'U' and 'UM' certificates of authorisation by ASME and miscellaneous steel items.
In addition, GCI is a holder of 'R' and 'NB' certificates and stamp codes from the National Board of Boiler and pressure vessels and the registration of 'U' stamped vessels with NBBI, respectively.
GCI operates strict Quality Assurance and Quality Control procedures for its manufacturing and repairing processes, according to the company.
These processes include: plate rolling up to 25mm thick and 2.5m wide; machining operations; plasma cutting; arc welding; MIG welding; TIG welding; SAW welding; hydraulic pressing up to 200 tonnes; drilling/reboring up to 76mm diameter; oxyacetylene cutting; plate shearing up to 16mm thick; bar cropping and punching; radial drill machine and blasting/painting.
The company is registered with SGS Yarsley International Certification Services Ltd for ISO9002, while Quality Control personnel are qualified and certified to ASNT/Level II and AWS Certified Welding Inspector.
GCI operates facilities in Dammam's 2nd Industrial City and in Al Khobar. A third workshop facility in Dammam is currently under construction, according to Dr Khalid Al Gaadi, general manager of the company.
Expansion, as well as acquisition of updated equipment, is an ongoing and primary objective for GCI as it strives to meet the ever-increasing demand from customers.
GCI is a joint venture between Al Nasser Industrial Enterprises of Abu Dhabi (50 per cent), Abdullah M Al Hussaini of Saudi Arabia (25 per cent) and Mohammad A Al Botain, also of Saudi Arabia (25 per cent).
