Kogs ... a global showcase

Posied to be the largest gathering of the oil and gas industry ever seen in Kuwait, Kogs 2015 is expected to attract over 3,500 international attendees and will see more than 200 companies from 24 countries exhibiting energy products and services

Following the huge success of the first edition in 2013, the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Kuwait Oil & Gas Show and Conference (Kogs 2015) is returning to Kuwait from October 11 to 14, 2015. The event will be held at the Kuwait International Fair in Mishref under the patronage of Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah, the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait.

Set to be the largest gathering of the oil and gas industry ever seen in Kuwait, Kogs 2015 incorporates a multidisciplinary conference programme organised by the SPE and a world-class international exhibition of oil and gas hardware and services organised by Allworld Exhibitions’ member Arabian Exhibition Management. The event is expected to attract over 3,500 regional and international attendees.

The Kogs 2015 conference takes place under the theme ‘Future Hydrocarbon Resources; Innovations, Technology and Opportunities’ and focuses on key areas of interest for those working in the upstream and downstream sectors in the region, including reservoir management, production operations, sustainable development, drilling and completion technologies, innovation, refining and the petrochemical industries.

The conference opens in a special ceremony on October 11 at the Hilton Kuwait Resort. The session will begin with welcome addresses from Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah, Kuwait’s Prime Minister; Dr Ali Saleh Al Omair, Kuwait’s Minister of Oil and Minister of State for the National Assembly; Nizar Al Adsani, chief executive officer (CEO), Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC); Hosnia Hashim, vice president operations, Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (Kufpec) and Janeen Judah, 2017 SPE president.

Keynote speeches on this year’s conference theme will follow, delivered by Abdalla Salem El Badri, secretary general, Opec; Hashem Hashem, CEO, Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Mohammad Al Mutairi, CEO, Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC); Bob Dudley, CEO, BP and Samir Brikho, CEO, Amec Foster Wheeler.

More than 180 technical and poster presentations designed to share the knowledge and experience of managing, operating and supplying companies will follow over the subsequent three days of the conference at Kuwait International Fair, delivered by over 260 expert speakers from more than 60 companies across 27 countries.

The packed agenda at Kogs 2015 also includes four industry panel sessions and five special sessions led by chief executive officers, managers and presidents of national and international oil companies and the service industry. Discussion topics include industry strategies in the face of unstable oil prices, the role of gas in the region, innovation, overcoming scarcity of resources, refining industry drivers, women’s networking, local content and the role of the banking sectors.

Three SPE training courses and two field trips for delegates will also take place in conjunction with Kogs 2015, in addition to a two-day programme of events aimed at the next generation of oil and gas professionals which will offer high school students and teachers the opportunity to engage and gain valuable career advice.

More than 200 companies from 24 countries will be in attendance at the parallel exhibition which takes place from October 12 to 14. The 14,000 sq m global showcase features key stakeholders, major players, suppliers and service providers and serves all areas of the oil and gas industry.

Principal exhibitors include Adnoc, Bapco, KPC, Saudi Aramco and Equate. Complementing these regional giants is a host of international powerhouses including Amec Foster Wheeler, Baker Hughes, GE Oil & Gas, Halliburton, ONGC, Schlumberger, Shell, Total and Weatherford amongst others who will be exhibiting alongside independent specialist suppliers and distributors from Kuwait and across the globe. The exhibition also features large national groups from France, Egypt and Malaysia.

2013 SHOW REPORT

The inaugural Society of Petroleum Engineers Kuwait Oil & Gas Show and Conference (Kogs 2013) ended on a buoyant note on October 10, 2013 having attracted a total of 3,420 attendees.

Satisfaction amongst participants was high with 87 per cent of exhibitors surveyed rating the quality of attendees as either ‘good’ or ‘excellent’, whilst 92 per cent described the event as ‘very useful’ to their business.

Kogs 2013 was held under the patronage of the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al Hamad Al Sabah. The exhibition and conference were officially inaugurated by Kuwait’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil Mustafa Jassem Al Shamali.

The world-class exhibition of products and services spanned 10,600 sq m of space at Kuwait International Fair and showcased 186 companies from 24 countries. The exhibition profile covered all areas of the industry, including petroleum geosciences, exploration and production in addition to refining and petrochemical products and services.

Principal exhibitors included GCC national oil companies – Adnoc, Bapco, KPC and Saudi Aramco – who exhibited alongside supermajors including Chevron, Shell and Total. Service industry giants Baker Hughes, CGG, Dow, Halliburton, Schlumberger and Weatherford; large national groups from France, Iraq, North America and the UK plus a host of independent specialist suppliers and distributors from across the globe completed this line up.

'The first edition of Kogs was a great success by every measure. The feedback received has been superb,' says Hashem Hashem, Kogs 2013 executive committee chair and KOC’s managing director.

'The stature and importance of Kuwait as a key leader in the oil industry was further emphasised by this inaugural event; the scale and reach of which has never before been achieved by an event in the oil and gas sector in our country.

'The number of conference and exhibition attendees speak of the huge interest this initiative boosted in Kuwait, motivating an active and massive participation from all over the world,' Hashem continues.

The Conference: The parallel conference programme organised by the SPE delivered a pace setting programme featuring 94 papers from 19 countries, representing 37 companies.

Divided across 17 sessions, presentation topics ranged from downstream, reservoir management, production operations, sustainable development, and drilling and completion technologies. The packed agenda also included an executive plenary session, four high level panel sessions, a special session devoted to new media image management, and more than 50 e-poster presentations.

The conference opened on October 7 at the Regency Hotel with a plenary session on this year’s theme ‘The power of collaboration, people and technology in the oil and gas industry’, followed by welcome addresses by Mustafa Jassem Al Shamali, deputy prime minister and Minister of Oil, Kuwait; Nizar Al Adsani, CEO, KPC; Hashem Hashem, CEO, KOC, Hosnia Hashim, vice president operations, Kufpec; and Egbert Imomoh.
