DR SHEIKH Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued instructions to begin executing and building a waste-to-energy plant and the headquarters of Bee’ah, Sharjah Environment Company.

Sheikh Sultan issued the instructions during a visit and in the presence of Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Qasimi; chairman of the Sharjah Urban Planning, to Bee’ah’s Waste Management Centre (WMC), located in the Saj’ah industrial city in Sharjah, which comprises the Middle East’s largest, and the world’s third largest facility for material recovery.

At the start of his tour, Sheikh Sultan was updated about the latest achievements of the centre’s various facilities, which include the Material Recovery Facility (MRF), the Construction and Demolition Waste Recycling Facility (CDW), the Tire Recycling Facility (TRF), the E-Waste Dismantling and Processing Facility, and recently established facilities such as the Car Bodies Recycling and Shredding Facility and the Compost Plant, as well as the organic composting facility.

Occupying a space of 3.75 sq km, Bee’ah’s Waste Management Centre represents an entirely new approach to managing waste in this region, and includes some of the most advanced waste recovery and recycling facilities, run by a team of local, regional, and international experts.

Sheikh Sultan then inspected the company’s products and was briefed on Bee’ah’s fleet and container management system using state-of-the-art technology by using containers fully equipped with sensors monitoring the amount of waste.

Salim bin Mohammed Al Owais, chairman of the Board of Directors of Bee’ah, says: “We affirm our commitment to achieve our ambitions and objectives to make Sharjah the first city in the Middle East to benefit from 100 per cent waste diversion – according to His Highness’ vision, which aims to protect the environment in Sharjah and ensure its sustainability for future generations.”

He adds “To achieve the ambitions and goals of the company, we are using cutting-edge technology to recycle all types of waste in WMC, which today includes vital facilities such as waste-to-energy converting facilities, organic fertiliser facilities, and advanced metal recycling facilities.”

Khaled Huraimel, Group CEO of Bee’ah says Sheikh Sultan’s visit is consistent with Sheikh Sultan’s support to the company which has become, thanks to him, the leading waste management company in the Middle East.

This visit will inspire us to go forward towards achieving our aspiration of establishing the emirate of Sharjah as the environmental capital in the Middle East and to divert 100 per cent of Sharjah’s waste from landfill, in accordance with Sheikh Sultan’s vision of protecting the environment for future generations”.
