Background
Saudi Aramco and US based Dow Chemical Company have formed a joint venture to construct a gas plant in Ras Tanura. The purpose of the plant is to produce gases like ammonia, carbon monoxide, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and compressed air.
Project status
September 2015: Bidding for construction in Ras Tanura has been estimated to start in October,and ends in November with an award expected in March next year.
Project scope
The Ras Tanura gas plant will produce the following:
• 170,000 tonnes per year (tpy) of Ammonia 280,000 tpy of Carbon monoxide
• 150,000 tpy of Hydrogen
• 600,000 tpy of Oxygen
• 250 million cubic metres per year of Nitrogen
• 450 million cubic metres per year of Compressed Air
Project finance
Saudi Aramco and Dow Chemical Company own the project as a 50:50 joint venture scheme.
