The UK has been urged to support Africa's just energy transition, as the continent has the least contribution to climate change but is most affected by its impact.

The All Party Parliamentary Group for Africa (APPG) has published a report highlighting the need for a rapid energy transition in Africa, focusing on cleaner energy while expanding energy access and enabling more rapid development.

The report explores the challenges and solutions to Africa's energy dilemma, including solar mini-grids, clean cooking technologies, hydro, wind, gas, and geothermal energy, and the role of Just Energy Partnerships (JETPs) with South Africa and Senegal.

It also looks at how the transition can be financed, from traditional grants and loans to blended finance and private sector investments.

The report makes nine specific recommendations for action by the British government, including delivering on existing commitments on climate and finance, helping African governments mobilise more domestic resources and international funding for the energy sector, creating appropriate regulation and a conducive environment for investment, and supporting African innovation and industrialisation.
