Djibouti's Vision 2035 aims to produce 100 per cent of its electricity from renewable energy resources by 2035.

Currently, 70 per cent of Djibouti's power is imported from Ethiopia, one of the largest renewable energy producers in Africa.

To enhance imports, the Ethiopia-Djibouti Interconnection Project II aims to increase imports by 30 per cent, reducing fossil fuel reliance.

In addition, Djibouti is developing its own renewable energy projects. In 2023, the country inaugurated its first wind farm, the 60 MW Red Sea Power facility, and signed an agreement with renewable energy firm AMEA Power to develop a 25 MW solar photovoltaic project in the Grand Bara area.

The country aims to create a single Djibouti-Ethiopia-South Sudan-Somalia and Eritrea trade network, fostering regional integration and globalisation.
