Background

Al Shaheen field is one of the world’s largest oil fields and is located in block 5 offshore northern Qatar. The field is operated under a production sharing agreement on behalf of Qatar Petroleum. Current production from the field is around 40 per cent of Qatar’s crude oil, at around 300,000 barrels per day.


Project Status

February 2019: McDermott International, Saipem, Sapura Energy, Sembcorp Marine, Subsea 7, Larsen & Toubro, and PTSC are expected to show interest in the new EPC tender.


Project Scope

The scope of the project includes:

Phase 1:

• Three wellhead jackets each weighing 1,200 tonnes

• Piles weighing around 1,000 tonnes.

Phase 2:

• Two new wellhead platforms each weighing at least 1800 tonnes.

• A connecting bridge

• Brownfield work on offshore development.


Project Finance

As July 14, 2017, the North Oil Company (NOC) has taken over operatorship and will further develop the Al-Shaheen oil field for the next 25 years.
