Adnoc Distribution’s board of directors has appointed UAE national Ahmed Al Shamsi as acting Chief Executive Officer, effective from January 5, 2020.
He has replaced Saeed Al Rashdi, who stepped down to take up a new role with the company, a company circular said in December.
Al Shamsi previously served as Senior Vice President for the Middle East, Africa and Europe (MEAE) region at Abu Dhabi-based chemicals company Borouge, successfully delivering key strategic initiatives across the international business.
His career spans more than 20 years in various positions in chemical engineering, project management and petrochemicals, a report in Abu Dhabi-based newspaper The National said, citing the Borouge website.
Al Shamsi started his career in 1999 as a process engineer at Abu Dhabi Gas Company (Adnoc-Atheer). In 2001, he moved to the Industrial Development Fund to work as a project manager. He is also a board member of the Ruwais Fertiliser Industries.
Al Shamsi holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Tulsa in the US and a master’s in quality management from the University of Wollongong, Australia.
