Qatargas pioneered LNG in Qatar and has come a long way since its inception in 1984 and the subsequent signing of the company's first sales agreement in 1992.

In August 2001, the 400th cargo of LNG was loaded at Ras Laffan Port - less than four years after the company's first shipment and less than a year after the 300th cargo. 
By the end of August 2001, Qatargas had delivered a cumulative total of 404 LNG Cargoes.

April 8: The first well, NFB-1, spudded for technical evaluation.
May 27: The award of the Downstream Engineering Procurement and Construction Contract (EPC) to Chiyoda for the construction of the LNG Plant Trains 1 and 2.
Oct 2: The execution of the LNG Ship-Building Contract and the Charter Hire Agreement for the first seven vessels.
Dec 16: The execution of the Upstream Engineering Procurement and Construction Contracts (EPC) with McDermott and NPCC/TPG for the construction of offshore facilities.

July 31: The Contract Option for Downstream LNG Train 3 was exercised with Chiyoda for the construction of Train 3.
The execution of the contract with Darwish Engineering for the construction of the head office building at Ras Laffan.

May 21: The offshore living quarters completed and the start-up certificate signed.
May 28: The 32" pipeline to shore completed and start up certificate signed.
June 7: The wellhead jackets and flare structure completed and start-up certificate signed.
June 8: The upstream process and utilities platform completed and start-up certificate signed.
June 12: The commissioning of the offshore facilities completed.
June 16: Start-up of the onshore receiving facilities.
July 7: The first gas from the North Field Bravo platform received onshore.
July 12: The first condensate production transported to storage tanks.
