Dolphin date set

The multi-billion dollar Dolphin Energy Limited project scheduled to start gas supplies to the nation’s industry has now entered into the commissioning/pre-commissioning stage, as most of the key components of the mega project are completed, says a report.

“Among the components which are completed include a sub-sea pipeline, two key platforms, main processing and compression plant, support pipeline to Taweelah. The plant is 90 per cent complete,” said Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, CEO, Dolphin Energy Limited.
Talking to reporters at the sidelines of Gastech, a three-day gas industry conference, Al Sayegh said that Dolphin Energy will start production in mid-2007.
The firm aims to attain the full production capacity of two billion cubic feet a day around the end of next year.
“Our export pipeline has been built to take 60 per cent more gas than we shall initially import. We hope that within a few years we will be able to bring a further 1.2 billion cubic feet a day to the UAE and Oman markets,” he said.
The Dolphin Gas Project involves importing natural gas from Qatar and supplying it to the UAE and Oman.
On Abu Dhabi’s success story in the natural gas sector, he said, “Over the last 40 years, Abu Dhabi has built up its oil and gas industries together with experienced international partners.
“However, back in 1999 when the decision to launch the Dolphin Gas Project was announced, many of our peers were not convinced of the logic behind the move,” Al Sayegh said.
Today, he said, natural gas is a hot topic and the idea makes sense to everyone. Each of these courageous initiatives has depended on vision and commitment. In coming years, more such strategic and creative gas projects will be undertaken, he added.
Similarly, the long term benefits of Abu Dhabi’s plans for developing its extensive sour gas deposits using the latest technology will be extensive, he said.
