Dubai Maritime City, the world’s largest and the most comprehensive maritime complex in the world, has announced that it has begun construction of industrial workshops and warehouses in the iconic project.
Several industrial workshops and warehouses will be constructed, which will form a vital part of the relocation of Jadaf Dubai to the Maritime City.
Jadaf Dubai - one of the oldest ship repair yards in the Arabian Gulf, which is currently located at Dubai Creek - will be relocated in the industrial section of the Dubai Maritime City, occupying just under half of its 2.4 million square metres total area.
The construction assumes increased significance as it marks the rapid progress in the development of this dynamic development, which is expected to provide a major impetus to regional maritime trade.
Dubai Maritime City is also going full steam ahead with setting up the new shiplift facilities. Construction of the support structures for the new facilities is currently under way.
Amer Ali, project manager, Dubai Maritime City, said, “As the process gathers pace, we have initiated the construction phase of the warehouses and workshops in the industrial section, which will facilitate better use of support infrastructure, this is indeed a significant milestone for us and is in line with our objectives to have easy access, conformity and fulfilment of our industry requirements.
“Dubai Maritime City is taking rapid strides to accomplish this unique concept which is set to far outstrip expectations.”
He added, “Dubai Maritime city will be technologically advanced, environment-friendly and less labour-intensive.
“Now with the workshops, warehouses and the other support infrastructure being commissioned, we are confident that we will be able to give our existing and new members vastly improved services, both in terms of technology and facilities.
“This will allow companies operational at Dubai Maritime city to expand their operations. With the direct access to sea, vessels calling at Dubai Maritime City will not be limited by size.”
The multi-purpose industrial warehouses and workshops constructed will offer a wide range of facilities and spaces for the maritime industry.
The constructed buildings will adhere to the highest fire safety standards as set by the universally acknowledged National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Additionally, the warehouses will also provide security against weather related damage. Detailed project planning and research, coupled with the most efficient methods of construction, are being undertaken to ensure that the maritime related companies have access to state-of-the-art facilities including road networks created especially for industrial and maritime use.
When completed, Dubai Maritime City will be the world’s biggest and the most comprehensive maritime complex spread across 227 hectares of man-made peninsula between Port Rashid and Dubai Dry Docks, and will be surrounded by the waters of the Arabian Gulf.
