A public-private joint venture is setting up a $108.9-million gas sweete-ning and sulphur recovery project in Sharjah.
The government of Sharjah, along with Crescent Petroleum (as initial founder shareholders) and six other investors from the GCC, has formed Sajaa Gas Private Ltd Co (SajGas) for the project.
The SajGas shareholders are from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
“This is a watershed step involving the private sector in a mid-stream industrial project backed by the government, and it is considered to be the largest standalone gas plant of this type in the UAE,” a spokesman said.
Construction work of the environment-friendly plant is expected to be completed by end-2005, he said.
Petrofac International has been appointed the EPIC contractor for the project, which will have a capacity to process 600 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
