Adnoc and its other companies are planning mega projects to increase oil and gas output in the near future.
Abdullah bin Nasir Al Suwaidi, deputy executive chairman of Adnoc, says the group has prepared comprehensive plans and programmes to increase the production capacity in accordance with a sustained strategy.
The UAE’s crude oil output currently stands at 2.5 million barrels per day (bpd). However, this will rise to three million bpd, according to Adnoc’s plans.
The production capacity of Adnoc for Onshore Oil Operations (Adco) will increase from the current ceiling of 1.2 million bpd to 1.4 million bpd, while offshore oil output capacity will be raise to 600,000 bpd from the current 47,000 bpd.
Adnoc’s Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Limited is currently undertaking the phase-III of the development project of onshore gasfield at Tamama.
Tenders have been invited for the implementation of a project for the production of condensate.
Established in 1971, Adnoc, a fully state owned company, operates in all areas of oil and gas industry.
The exploration and production section’s main responsibility is to explore for oil and gas in Abu Dhabi and produce hydrocarbon in the most efficient way.
Oil was first discovered in Abu Dhabi in 1958. Since then, a significant number of major oilfields and gasfields have been found and developed.
Adnoc and its operating companies continue to explore for new oil and gas accumulations onshore as well as offshore.
The Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (Adma-Opco) is an oil and gas producer, operations of which date back to the 1950s, and are centred in the offshore areas of Abu Dhabi.
Oil and gas production comes from two major fields -- Umm Shaif and Zakum. The crude is collected from these fields using giant steel structures called super-complexes. It is then transferred to the Das Island, a nearby industrial base, for processing, storing and exports.
The Zakum Development Company (Zadco) was established in 1977 to develop and operate the Upper Zakum Field, one of the largest oilfields in the world, on behalf of Adnoc and Japan Oil Development Company (Jodco).
The development of the Upper Zakum reservoirs is considered one of the major technical achievements in Abu Dhabi.
Besides Upper Zakum, the company currently operates Umm Al Dalkh, and Satah fields. Crude oil from Upper Zakum, Umm Al Dalkh and Satah field is pumped via main oil lines to Zirku Island for further processing, storage and exports.
The Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Limited (Gasco)
is the operating company in Abu Dhabi responsible for processing associate and non-associate gas from onshore oil production.
In April 2001, the Abu Dhabi Gas Company (Atheer) was integrated with Gasco, which led to further enhancement of Gasco’s position as one of the largest gas processing companies in the world and one of the biggest industrial projects in the UAE.
Gasco converts previously flared oil by-products into different marketable forms of clean energy. Processing takes place in its four plants at Asab, Habshan/Bab, Bu Hasa, and Ruwais.
The Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Limited (Adgas) was established in 1973 to turn gas, extracted from Abu Dhabi’s offshore field crude oil, into a new source of marketable energy.
Immediately after the establishment of the company, a plant, the first of its kind in the Middle East, was built with an annual designed capacity of 2.5 million tonnes to produce LNG, in addition to 800,000 tonnes per year of LPG.
The Abu Dhabi Oil Refining Company (Takreer), a public shareholding firm, has been established in Abu Dhabi.
Its area of operation includes refining of crude oil, salt, chlorine and petroleum condensates, sulphur treatment, mixing of petroleum products among other activities.
The Ruwais Fertilizer Industries (Fertil) was established in October 1980 as joint venture between Adnoc and TotalFinaElf, which hold shares in the ratio of 2:1 respectively.
Construction activities began in 1980 and production in 1983.
The prime objective behind establishing the company was to utilise lean gas supplied from onshore field of Bab, Asab and Thamama C to produce fertilisers and market them locally and internationally.
The Abu Dhabi Polymers Company Ltd (Borouge) was established in 1998 to manufacture and sell polyethylene for use in technically-demanding applications, primarily in the flexible and rigid packaging and construction industries.
The Abu Dhabi National Tanker Company (Adnatco) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Adnoc, established for the transportation of crude oil, refined products, petrochemical products, gas and associated petroleum products.
The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company for Distribution (Adnoc-Fod) was establi-shed in 1973 as the first government-owned company specialised in marketing and distribution of petroleum products in the UAE.
The National Drilling Company (NDC) was established in May 1972 to handle drilling operations required for exploration and field development, as well as undertaking work-over and maintenance operations in both onshore and offshore areas. I became a wholly owned subsidiary of Adnoc in 1978.
The NDC has won many safety awards, including
Gold and President’s awards from the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC).
The National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC), a public joint stock, was established in April 1973.
The NPCC facilities are currently located at Mussafah, which were constructed during 1993/94. They include a new modern fabrication yard capable of producing 67,000 tonnes of fabricated steel structures per year and pipe-coating plants for coal, concrete, fusion bonded epoxy, poly-propylene coatings.
The National Gas Shipping Company Ltd (NGSCO) was established and registered in the British Virgin Islands in December 1993. The company has its main administration office in Abu Dhabi and two sub offices in Tokyo and Das Island.
