The only in-Kingdom pump manufacturer approved by Saudi Aramco for the supply of process, chemical and fire pumps, Saudi Pump Factory (SPF) continues to expand its manufacturing capabilities.
It regularly meets the demand for leading edge technology in process industries where maximum wear and life cycle costs are major design parameters. The introduction of a new line of ANSI pumps for tough applications demonstrates SPF's innovation.
The ANSI B73.1 process and chemical pumps are designed for the erosive and corrosive liquids found in the process and chemical industry. The heavy-duty pumps, featuring heavy-duty power frames and casing designs, known as the ANSIPlus series, have been developed using a combination of SPF's unrivalled experience, design, application know-how and expertise, and are now being used with success in a range of industrial applications.
The SPF manufacturing facility in Riyadh's Second Industrial City includes one of the largest and most comprehensive pump performance testing facilities available, capable of testing pumps with a power capacity exceeding 1MW. Manufacturing using state-of-the-art technology and ISO Quality accreditation, SPF says it has virtually no competition within the region in terms of local production and customer support, the company claims.
SPF has just been awarded contracts worth millions of Saudi Riyals by Saudi Aramco to supply API 610 process pumps for its Ras Tanura Tail Gas Recovery Project and its Yanbu Bi - 3186 Project.
The contracts consist of 12 end suction centreline-mounted pumps, four vertically suspended diffuser pumps and six radial split single stage between-bearing pumps. The pumps will be installed for dip bottoms, propane transfer, product blending, product handling, debutanising, solvent re-circulation, condensation and oily-water and fire-storm water sump handling.
Ras Tanura is the oldest refinery within Aramco and it has been going through major upgrades to meet increasingly stringent environmental requirements while operating efficiently and profitably.
The refinery expects that current and planned upgrades will make it a world class complex with the capacity to survive in an increasingly competitive marketplace by changing its configuration from a hydro skimming refinery to a full conversion refinery.
In the same fashion as the Ras Tanura refinery, the Yanbu refinery, a hydro skimming plant, is going through major upgrades to meet the environmental requirements and Aramco's overall operating efficiency and profitably requirements. The refinery's in house engineering team has been redesigning the processes for increasing safety and improving operational flexibility for further control on production output.
Over the past decade, Saudi Aramco has evolved from mainly an oil and gas producing company to an integrated company with substantial shipping and refining assets. Saudi Aramco today is the world's largest oil producer and sixth in refining capacity. It is committed to ensuring that Saudi Arabia will be self-sufficient in meeting domestic demand for refined products and natural gas well into the next century.
Saudi Aramco has set an overall refining strategy to upgrade and modernise each of its refineries by 2006. SPF, having forged strong, dependable relationships with Saudi Aramco, its contractors and consultants in Saudi Arabia and worldwide, is seen to be a major player in these expansion projects, helping the Kingdom to grow further its self-sufficiency programmes.
