An aromatics complex in Jubail... an example of Technip's diversity

Technip, the Paris-based international petrochemical engineering, construction and services company,  has been awarded, by Saudi Aramco, a lumpsum turnkey (LSTK) contract for the addition of Diesel Hydrotreating Facilities at Riyadh Refinery.

As part of the project, Technip will provide a diesel hydrotreater, an amine regeneration unit, a new sulphur recovery unit, a hydrogen plant and will revamp existing facilities.
The plant will be able to produce 45,000 barrels per day (bpd) of low sulphur diesel and have the flexibility to produce extra low sulphur diesel through the installation of additional equipment. The cost of this project has been estimated at $160 million.
Technip's contract covers the following services: project management, detail engineering, procurement of equipment and materials, construction management, construction precommissioning and assistance to commissioning.
The overall project will be carried out by Technip's engineering centre in Rome, with the construction being handled by the Group's local affiliate, Technip Saudi Arabia.
The project began in early August 2003 and completion is slated for January 2006.
This contract falls within the framework of Saudi Arabia's intention to improve the Kingdom's ambient air quality by supplying low sulphur diesel to the domestic market.
For Technip, this new success adds to the remarkable list of its references in Saudi Arabia, including several other large major gas and oil development projects for Saudi Aramco, such as: Hawiyah, Haradh and Qatif.
With a workforce of about 19,000, Technip ranks among the top five corporations in the field of oil, gas and petrochemical engineering, construction and services.
Headquartered in Paris, the Group is listed in New York and Paris.
The Group's main engineering and business centers are located in France, Italy, Germany, the UK, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands, the United States, Brazil, Abu Dhabi, China, India, Malaysia and Australia. The Group has high-quality industrial and construction facilities in France, Brazil, the UK, the US, and Finland as well as a world-class fleet of offshore construction vessels.
The firm's catalogue of activities covers offshore and onshore field development, gas processing and liquefaction, refining, onshore pipelines and petrochemicals - which represents its main business.
It is particularly well positioned in the deepwater area, backed by its own high-quality industrial assets dedicated to this business.
It is also actively developing its activities in non-oil sectors such as fertilisers, chemicals, life sciences, power generation and other industries.
The company prides itself on its quality control. The health of the personnel working on its job sites,  yards or vessels or in the industrial facilities which were built by it, as well as environmental protection are Technip's top priorities. These concerns are taken into account at the earliest stage when the facility is being designed and appropriate measures are strictly applied at each stage of project execution, it claims.
Furthermore quality objectives govern the way Technip conducts its activities and all its engineering centres are ISO 9001 certified.
HSE objectives govern the way Technip conducts its activities with clients and partners in offices and on job sites. They are pursued through the Corporate HSE policy:
Technip's goals are to promote, communicate and implement the following code of practice:
'Performance of the design with the objective to deliver to the client a plant or a facility that is safe to operate and maintain and is respectful of the environment'.
While during the execution of the projects: Provision of safe and healthy workplaces; fostering of an accident prevention philosophy; provision of instruction and training to enable work to be carried out safely; monitoring of HSE policy objectives and, if necessary, implementation of remedial actions.
Technip recognises that the success of this policy requires the personal involvement and enthusiasm of everyone in matters of health, safety and protection of the environment.
