Sigma pledges to protect the industry's assets

Wherever the millions of miles of buried carbon-steel pipe in the world are located, there is always an enemy. That enemy is corrosion. The number-one threat to the designed life of the line.

From its many years' concern with severe corrosion in a marine environment, Sigma Coatings has applied its science and its experience to protecting steel tubes, the company claims, and has created two new products to join the combat.
Whether from its operating environment, or from its many cargoes, corrosion, and its consequences, can be catastrophic. The effectiveness of a well conceived corrosion-control programme can be enhanced by the careful selection of the exterior coating.
Sigma Coatings has coatings that are designed for the purpose, by chemists familiar with the problems, and using the most advanced resin technology.
It has been demonstrated that coatings based on Phenolic-Epoxy resins can be engineered to have characteristics and properties from which buried pipelines, either in the soil, or, submerged undersea, can benefit.
Advanced cross-linking chemistry provides cured-film properties of hardness, heat resistance, flexibility, and chemical resistance.
7497 Sigmarite EPH is a two-component product that requires application with conventional high-pressure airless spray equipment, and is well adapted to field application, but continuous, mill application is also recommended.
7667 Sigmalining FDP 67 must be applied with twin-feed, hot, airless equipment, making it more suited to, but by no means limited to, application at the mill.
Both products contain no thinners, and this eliminates all the problems associated with entrapment, sagging etc.
These 100 per cent solids-containing products have wide application possibilities; surface temperature, paint temperature and application rates can be adjusted to provide a wide range of application variables, found from contractor to contractor and site to site.
While both products have similar cured-film properties, each has its individual merits, which will affect product selection.
These products are complemented by a range of products for application to the interior of pipe. This may be done 'in situ' as a part of a line refurbishment, either on land, or undersea, or joint by joint in the pipe-mill, or on-site.
7453 Sigma Novaguard is the interior version of the Phenolic-Epoxy family of products. Single-coat, pin-hole free, no solvent fumes, superb edge-coverage, and suitable for immersion in a broad range of chemicals, in addition to water in its many forms. An ideal girth-weld coating with a slick, hard finish, which will withstand abrasion and provide no turbulence or drag.
Sigma's interest is in using its experience and expertise, gathered over many years, and brought to the market with users and applicators in mind.
Corrosion is the enemy of the whole industry, the forces against it are ready. And Sigma claims it aims to protect the industry's assets.
