Hitachi Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi and leader in electrification, will invest $1 billion to expand the production of critical electrical grid infrastructure in the US.
This includes $457 million for a new large power transformer facility in South Boston, Virginia, aimed at meeting energy demand driven by AI data centres and promoting domestic access to grid technologies.
The facility will focus on producing large power transformers for applications such as high-voltage transmission, power generation, and industrial use, creating over 825 new jobs in Southside Virginia in engineering, advanced manufacturing, and operations.
These initiatives are part of a broader $9 billion global investment programme to enhance manufacturing capacity, R&D, engineering, and partnerships for a more reliable and resilient energy system.
