LNG leaders urge EU for review

0/0

In a strong joint statement, energy leaders from Qatar, the US, Nigeria, and Algeria have demanded swift amendments to the EU Methane Regulation.

Representing the EU’s primary liquefied natural gas suppliers, the coalition said that critical technical elements remain undefined ahead of the January 2027 enforcement deadline.

The regulatory void threatens long-term contracts valued in the tens of billions of euros, the statement said.

The suppliers are demanding a stop-the-clock mechanism, grandfathering for new contracts, and the removal of non-compliance penalties during a transitional period to prevent supply disruptions and secure Europe’s energy future.
