Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has awarded the 1.5 GW Khazna Solar PV project to Engie and Masdar.

This initiative aims to enhance solar power capacity in Abu Dhabi, generating enough electricity for approximately 160,000 homes while avoiding over 2.4 million metric tonnes of annual carbon emissions.

The project will feature nearly three million solar panels optimised with advanced digital solutions.

It aligns with EWEC’s goal to meet 60 per cent of Abu Dhabi’s power demand from renewable sources by 2035.

The financial close is anticipated by Q4 2025, supporting the UAE’s energy transition and sustainability objectives.
