The International Energy Forum (IEF) reaffirmed its commitment to global energy security and market stability amid ongoing volatility, particularly in the Middle East.

In a statement by Jassim Alshirawi, the Secretary General, on sustaining global energy security in the current supply shock, the forum underscored the urgency of coordinated international action to strengthen resilience across energy markets.

As a neutral platform connecting producers and consumers, the IEF emphasised that dialogue and data sharing are critical to navigating complex market dynamics, ensuring affordability, and supporting inclusive energy transitions.

To guide government and industry responses, the IEF outlined three shared principles.

First, it called for reaffirming the inviolability of energy infrastructure and trade routes, noting that disruptions disproportionately affect vulnerable populations and can stall economic growth.

Second, it stressed acknowledging producer consumer interdependencies and improving official energy market data transparency.

The IEF highlighted persistent gaps in reporting on oil, gas, and refined product inventories, which hinder timely responses to market shocks.

Enhanced data sharing through initiatives such as the Joint Organisations Data Initiative (JODI) is seen as vital for stabilising prices, boosting investor confidence, and supporting informed policy decisions.

Third, the forum urged deeper dialogue on energy security and resilience, encouraging holistic, system-based approaches to managing supply and demand risks, strategic stocks, spare capacity, and alternative trade routes.

Such cooperation, the IEF said, strengthens preparedness for shocks across energy and critical commodity markets, including fertilisers and minerals.

By reinforcing trust, transparency, and cooperation, the IEF aims to stabilise markets, accelerate sustainable development, and support the transition to affordable, reliable, and low carbon energy, while mitigating the economic and social impacts of energy insecurity.
