Basrec provides all kinds of engineering services

Basrec stood first among Bahrain’s shipyards and received ISO 45001:2018 through Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance for service quality, and maintaining stringent health and safety standards

Bahrain Ship Repairing and Engineering Company (Basrec), the region’s most established and well respected repair yard, has shown remarkable resilience in the face of the ongoing global pandemic, winning global recognition for its services and expanding facilities and its products portfolio.

The company has received ISO 45001:2018 through Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) for its integrated management system in recognition of the quality of its services, and maintaining the latest health and safety standards. It stood first among other shipyards in Bahrain.

The certification process requires the company to have a quality management system, quality manual, and adequate performance documentation processes and procedures related to health and safety with employee consultation and continuous improvement policy. This includes performing and documenting an internal audit and management review in accordance with the standard.

Commenting on the award, a company spokesman says: "This certification complements the company’s well-articulated and successful strategy to high quality, customised, and benefit services. The achievement is the reflection of a proactive approach to turning this Covid-19 risk environment into an opportunity through five days of rigorous video conference with Lloyd’s team from the GCC. This has opened another chapter of successful online auditing. Subsequently, quality assurance management achieved another successful surveillance audit with online through video conference in this pandemic situation."

The company is also ISO 9001: 2015 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001: 2015 (Environmental Management) certified. The system describes the process of monitoring and recording performance to provide data for continuous improvement.

The spokesman explains: "The business excellence and quality assurance functions are centralised and fully autonomous, which ensure that products and services are delivered to consistent quality standards, which are not compromised. The objectives are set in line with strategic goals. Continuous assessment and audits identify opportunities for improving the product realization process and the quality management system."
