The Nuclear Energy Agency’s Roadmaps to New Nuclear 2025 conference, a high-level event bringing together government and industry leaders to advance nuclear new builds, will focus on addressing the key challenges of ramping up nuclear energy while boosting economic growth and energy security.
The third edition of this event will be held on September18-19 and will be co-chaired by Kim Jung-Kwan, Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy of Korea, and William Magwood IV, NEA Director-General.
The conference will address the most pressing issues for the nuclear sector’s supply chain, including timely construction, skilled workforce development, and ensuring a robust nuclear fuel supply and resilience.
It will also gather representatives from global financial institutions and private capital players to align policies and financing models essential for scaling up nuclear energy wherever it is needed.
Additionally, the conference will feature sessions on the deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs), artificial intelligence, challenges and opportunities in the back end of the nuclear fuel cycle, nuclear technologies for space applications, medical radioisotope demand and supply, and discussions on nuclear energy for emerging economies.
Magwood IV said: "Many countries have concluded that nuclear energy is critical to their futures in terms of both ensuring energy security and meeting their environmental goals. New markets are emerging; new customers are seeking solutions—from providing high temperature heat for industrial processes to powering data centres—and new nuclear reactor technologies are nearing commercial deployment to meet these needs. But delivering on this promise requires more than innovation. It demands action by governments and industry to prepare the way. The Roadmaps to New Nuclear conference provides a forum for key players to chart a path to delivering nuclear new build."
