Clariant, a specialist in oilfield production chemicals and services that counts many oil major amongst its clients, says its D3 pro-gramme and new lab are customer centric moves that will bring it closer to its customers.
D3 is Clariant’s sustainability programme that offers a pathway to decarbonise production from the oil wells without causing disrup-tion to the flow or impacting the profitability. It’s made up of three pillars: decarbonise, densify and detox.
Decarb uses nanotechnology and ingredients from renewable sources to reduce carbon emissions in customers’ operations; Den-sify facilitates logistics improvements and furthers sustainability initiatives through a new application with concentrated products; and Detox incorporates formulations with more environmentally acceptable raw materials.

“This eliminates the need for transporting a huge amount of chemicals to the production sites and then erecting heavy machinery to inject them. In effect, it stops emissions created by the movement of the machinery. Additionally, it also improves human safety since the volume of chemicals handled is lesser,” Zied Ghazouani, Head of Sales Eastern Hemisphere, Clariant, tells Abdulaziz Khattak of OGN energy magazine.
The water separated is treated and can be reused, he says.
Clariant also last month launched the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) technical lab.
Based in Dubai, the lab will enable Clariant to respond quickly to customers’ analytical requests, says Ghazouani
Clariant is highly equipped with digital solutions. Its high-throughput experimentation (HTE) method allows it to quickly come up with a formulation for its customers to avoid disruption to their operations and maintain profitability in a sustainable manner.
Sustainability and digitalisation, Ghazouani says are clear mandates for the oil and gas industry. And with the present technology, a lot of optimisation can be done in brownfield assets.
