US power capacity to double

The US, which operates the world’s largest and most diverse electricity system, is projected to more than double its power capacity to 1.06 TW by 2035 from 414.5 GW in 2024, according to GlobalData.

Renewable energy, led by solar (737.8 GW growth) and onshore wind (269 GW), will drive most new capacity, supported by state mandates, utility plans, and corporate power purchase agreements.

Offshore wind faces regulatory delays, while coal and oil decline. Natural gas and nuclear remain essential.

Trade measures, rising input costs, and federal policy uncertainties are adding delays and cost pressures, even as demand for clean generation remains robust.
