The event saw high-level discussions and speeches on important topics including climate action and the energy trilemma of sustainability, affordability, and security of supply
Awhopping $8.2 billion in business was generated for the global energy sector at Adipec 2022, one of the world’s most influential summits for the energy sector, held from October 31 to November 3 at Abu Dhabi, the UAE.
This year’s edition, held just a week before COP27 in Egypt, saw high-level discussions and speeches on important topics includ-ing climate action and the energy trilemma of sustainability, affordability, and security of supply.
In his opening keynote address, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Managing Director and Group CEO of Adnoc, Dr Sultan Al Jaber, said: “The world needs maximum energy, minimum emissions.”
This set the tone for ensuing discussions across a range of high-level ministerial panels, including that attended by Suhail Mo-hammed Al Mazrouei, the UAE’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman al-Saud, Saudi Arabia’s Minis-ter of Energy, Amos Hochstein, US Senior Advisor for Energy Security, Tarek El Molla, Egyptian Energy Minister, and Hardeep Singh Puri, India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
More than 160,000 energy professionals from over 160 countries gathered at Adipec, which also featured over 28 country pavil-ions, and specialised zones for manufacturing and the new Decarbonisation Zone to explore technology and challenges around decarbonisation.
The Smart Manufacturing Strategic and Technical Conferences and Exhibition Zone brought together manufacturers from across the energy industry to consider how advanced technologies are unlocking greater value, boosting productivity and transforming val-ue chains.
Case studies and real time demonstrations from industry experts were showcased at the technical conference, giving first-hand in-sight into the latest technologies.
In the strategic conference programme, industry leaders explored the role of carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) and storage technologies as a major contributor to transition strategies, and how recent investments are driving technological advancements in this space.
Meanwhile, the dedicated Decarbonization Zone facilitated meaningful and inclusive dialogue and collaboration to tackle energy security, affordability, and sustainability.
The zone included a forum for leaders in the energy ecosystem to discuss low-carbon technologies, and to showcase the essential role that the oil and gas sector is playing in accelerating the transition from fossil fuels to cleaner forms of energy.
No one was left behind at Adipec 2022, which has had a special section for the youth for years. Young Adipec, the annual youth ini-tiative at Adipec this year marked 10 years of empowering and inspiring the energy industry’s future leaders.
