Prowirl ... designed to excel

Thanks to integrated pressure and temperature measurement, Prowirl guarantees maximum measurement accuracy when determining steam density and energy content. Costly and time-consuming measuring devices are now a thing of the past

As a multivariable vortex flowmeter, Prowirl 200 offers all-in-one: simultaneous measurement of mass flow, corrected volume flow, energy flow, temperature, pressure and even steam quality.

Regardless of which process conditions are prevalent in a plant and how much process variables fluctuate, Endress+Hauser’s Prowirl enables highly precise measurements, providing comprehensive energy management for a wide variety of fluids, such as wet steam, saturated steam, superheated steam, compressed air, nitrogen, oxygen, argon, natural gas, water, thermal oils or other hydrocarbons.

With its newly integrated pressure measurement, Prowirl 200 is able to function as a central measuring point for all industrial steam and gas applications in pipes up to a nominal diameter of DN 300 (12"), says a company spokesperson. In many applications in the process industry, pressure and temperature are often inconstant and fluctuate greatly.

If such effects are not compensated, this can lead to massive measurement errors and thus to loss of energy and money when measuring compressible fluids such as gas and steam, she says.

Thanks to integrated pressure and temperature measurement, Prowirl guarantees maximum measurement accuracy when determining steam density and energy content. Costly and time-consuming installation of four separate measuring device for flow, pressure and temperature is now a thing of the past, she says.

The new pressure measurement unit is available for the sensors Prowirl F (standard device), Prowirl R (for low flows) und Prowirl O (high-pressure version).

ROBUSTNESS

Prowirl 200 is the most robust vortex flowmeter on the world market today. Unique DSC (Differential Switched Capacitor) sensor technology ensures high-precision values measured even under the toughest conditions, she explains.

The balanced design makes the DSC sensor resistant to plant vibration, temperature shocks (>150 K/s) as well as water hammer in steam lines. Long– term test measurements have also confirmed that Prowirl vortex flowmeters show no signs of drift even after decades of use (lifetime calibration factor). Thanks to its robust design Prowirl 200 is able to reduce installation and operating costs, in addition to significantly increasing plant availability.

WET STEAM DETECTION

Many industries use large quantities of steam, either for heating, cleaning, or as a source of energy.

The transfer of heat energy is energetically efficient only for "saturated steam." Often, however, "wet steam" predominates, since fluctuations in pressure and temperature cause water to condense out, or water gets into the steam lines due to disruptions in the boiler system. The consequences are usually serious: low efficiency for the transmission of energy, hazardous water hammer or heavy corrosion from the salts dissolved in the water carried over.

Prowirl 200 is the world’s first vortex flowmeter with the option of monitoring steam quality and quantity continuously.

UNIFORM TWO-WIRE CONCEPT

As an innovative two-wire measuring device, Prowirl 200 is based on a uniform device concept that significantly reduces complexity for the user. The new concept standardises operation, menu structures, function designations, software, interfaces, data management, system integration, error display, documentation, through to product structure. These innovations create long-term economic benefits for customers throughout the entire life cycle of their plant.
